The planting at Living Coasts is going through a transition.
Originally the site was planted with native coastal plants found on the walks around the shores of Tor Bay. The different animal species come from foreign shores so we have decided to mirror this in some places with the planting.
Fur Seal Cove is being planted with species found in South America, offering a mixture of texture and colour as a backdrop for the seals and Inca terns.
Penguin Beach is being planted with African species. The gardeners are often helped by the penguins and bank cormorants when pulling the weeds!
Waders Estuary will remain as native UK species, importantly giving shade and shelter to the birds.
Otter Rapids will have an Asian feel with different shrubs and grasses. And when you sit at the Jetty to have a snack the flower beds should provide colour and scents for all to enjoy.
