African penguin adoption
Penguins face many threats including climate change, overfishing and habitat degradation.
By adopting a penguin, you will make a real contribution to the vital conservation work that Living Coasts does to protect these fascinating animals.
The African penguin can be found on the sandy shores from Cape Town to Namibia.
They grow to a height of between 68-72cm tall and will weigh 2-5 kilograms. They eat mainly fish such as anchovies – also squid and crustaceans.
The African penguin is an endangered species, largely as a result of egg collectors and habitat degradation. Heavy fishing practices along with oil spills and construction in coastal areas has seriously depleted their available food and space.
Living Coasts supports the rehabilitation of penguins in the wild and is part of the European breeding programme. We have also become very successful at breeding and rearing penguins ourselves. These animal adoption packages help us raise vital funds for our conservation projects and breeding programmes.
